Tips On Maintaining The Roof Gutters
Wednesday, March 31st, 2010If your gutter system is clogged and you do not bother to clean it then think one more time. Otherwise, be ready to spend some money. Start saving money because you certainly need it to repair your house infrastructure. Clogged roof gutters can very well damage the sidings and the paint work of your home. In order to avoid such troubles, carry out the unclogging of roof gutters at regular intervals.
Reach for the roof gutters first and inspect the object that is blocking the passage of water. To access the roof gutter, you have to take the help of a ladder. When finished setting up the ladder, step up to the top to remove the filth and tree leaves or something that is blocking the gutter. To remove all this filth, you can use gutter scoop or garden trowel.
There are cases when filth remains glued to the gutter. In that particular case, just pour down some water on the dirt. Leave the wet dirt in tact for a moment. Once it loosens up, remove it with help of a garden trowel or scoop.
You can collect all the filth either in a bucket attached to the ladder or in plastic trash bags. The advantage of using plastic bag is that you don’t have to get down every time to empty it. You just have to drop the plastic bags down when they become full.
Use a garden hose to clear the clogged downspout or gutter but do it gently. The downspout and gutters are not so much durable like your house drain that can withstand the pressure of your garden hose. If you are not able to unclog it with the help of hose then you can try plumber’s snake or a straightened cloth hanger. Do not forget to do it a careful and gentle manner.
You also can use the blower to clean dirt from the gutter. Use goggles while using blower because the blowing dirt can get into your eyes and can seriously hurt them. Always use the blower responsibly as you are working on altitude.
After all the cleaning is done, flush the gutter with water. This not only cleans the gutter system but also detects any leak if present.
Regular inspection of roof gutters not only saves you some extra bucks but also keeps your home clean and beautiful.
