Blazers Sign All Star Guard Roy To 5 Year Contract Extension

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

After a summer of negotiational back and forth during which both sides indicated at various points that they were far apart and then making progress, the Portland Trailblazers have inked All Star shooting guard Brandon Roy to a five year contract extension. Roy will be in the final year of his rookie contract in the forthcoming NBA season, and securing the services of a player that did no less than turn around the franchise was the teams top summer priority.

The on court success and off court class of Brandon Roy may have saved the Portland NBA franchise. The Blazers slumped from their glory years of the 1970’s and 1980’s as the 1990’s progressed, eventually pulling together a roster consisting of character challenged reprobates that earned the moniker JailBlazers for their frequent legal transgressions.

With the Blazers fans staying away from the arena in droves, team owner Paul Allen had finally had enough. In the late 1990’s, he gutted the franchise management and cleaned house. The new management was given the charge to put together a roster that would not only win games, but win back the Rose City fans. The acquisition of Roy will likely be looked at as the turning point for this effort. The Blazers acquired Roy on draft day 2006 for Randy Foye, and would go on to win the NBAs rookie of the year award.

Since that point, Roy has become the face of the franchise. Roy has become the centerpiece of a talented young team had has not only become a force in the NBAs Western Conference but has gone a long way to winning back the Portland fan base. The current crop of Blazers is more likely to be found in the aisles at Home Depot or at Starbucks than in the police blotter, and the team seldom puts forth a substandard effort on the court.

Roys agent Bob Myers strongly suggested that Roy wanted to remain with the Blazers for his entire career, noting that he “is one of the unique players to have a chance to have that sort of relationship with one team.”

The team will now turn its attention to signing a long term deal with forward LaMarcus Aldridge. Aldridge is also in the final year of his rookie contract and a key component to the teams recent success. At last report, talks between the two sides are progressing.

Chargers’ Running Back Tomlinson To Miss Second Straight Game

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

LaDanian Tomlinson is still not fully recovered from a sprained right ankle, and as a result hell miss his second consecutive NFL regular season game this Sunday. Tomlinson was hurt in the San Diego Chargers season opening victory over the Oakland Raiders and didn’t play last week. The Chargers are slated to host the Miami Dolphins on Sunday afternoon.

After playing in eight consecutive regular season games last year, the superstar running back has missed three of the Chargers last four games including the Chargers AFC playoff loss to the eventual Superbowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers.

Tomlinson refused comment when asked about his injury:

“I don’t have a comment about it. It is what it is.”

Until his recent bouts with injury, Tomlinson had been one of the most durable running backs in the league. Prior to last season, the only start hed missed in his career was the season finale in 2004 when then-coach Marty Schottenheimer rested Tomlinson and other starters in advance of the NFL playoffs.

Chargers’ coach Norv Turner spoke about Tomlinson’s injury:

“It’s hard because you’d like to have all your guys. It’s crazy, because on Sept. 1, when people were asking me what I thought about camp, I said it was great that we were healthy and had all our guys, because that’s something we haven’t had in a while.

“I think we’re doing the right thing with L.T. Obviously he couldn’t play this week, you know, but he’s getting better and hopefully he’ll be able to go next week. if not, he’ll be ready to go when the bye’s over.”

The Chargers also have a half dozen players listed as questionable due to flu like symptoms. Turner spoke about their prognosis:

“I think we’re beyond the guys who had it. I obviously have a concern that they’re not too drained, but I think we have a couple days to get them back. My concern is what’s going to pop up tomorrow morning or Sunday morning because obviously it’s going through the building.”

Darren Sproles started in LTs place last week, and has performed well this season. Sproles, who also returns kickoffs and punts, had 524 all purpose yards in two games this season. Hes not as powerful a back as Tomlinson, but is a heady player who uses his speed and elusiveness to pick up yardage.

The Chargers are a -6 home favorite against the Miami Dolphins this Sunday, with the total set at 44. The first half line on the game is San Diego -3 with the total set at 21. San Diego will travel to the Steel City of Pittsburgh next Sunday to face the Superbowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers, and then enjoy a much needed bye week.

Factors Responsible For Roof Leaks

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

Precaution is always considered better than cure. Same concept applies to the maintenance and repair of the roof-related problems. It is always better to study the factors that lead to roof leaks rather than worrying about the repair work later. There are certain factors that contribute to the leaks and seepages in the roof.

The common causes of roof leaks can be divided into three categories, natural factors, imperfect architecture and lack of maintenance. While the homeowners can do little about the natural factors, they can minimize the possibility of a roof leak by following certain preventive measures.

The roofs remain exposed to the sunlight for a major chunk of the time. In comparison to other natural agents, sun damages the roof surface to a larger extent. The roof turns more brittle with time and the tar becomes less effective. As a result, the roof fails to deliver the required protection against the rain and the wind. The water accumulated on the uneven spots of the roof find an easy passage into the internal structure of the roof through these faulty segments.

The rainy season adds to the chaos and becomes the driving force for the occurrence of leaks and seepages in the roof. The loose segments of the roof don’t produce any hurdle in the path of water or moisture.

Besides the sunlight and the rain, wind can also hurt the structural integrity of the roof setup to a large extent. The wind is able to pry up the loose segments of the roof. Constant exposure to the wind loosens the setting of a particular roofing segment further and hence, it becomes an easy prey of the problems of leaks and seepages. Wisely-planned roof architecture with proper insulation can save your roof from the fury of such natural agents to a large extent.

Often, the inexperienced roofers fail to construct a roof that abides by the expert’s specifications. On the other hand, the experienced or licensed roofers would strictly follow the guidelines set by the builders and the experts. Once a sound setup is rendered to the roof, remember certain habits that must be avoided. For example, don’t wear heavy-soled shoes while walking on a hot roof. The pressure pushes the soft adhesive out of the gap and the constituting segments become loose and faulty.

Examine the roof on a regular basis.

Proper roof maintenance is of utmost importance to keep away the roof-related problems.

The Correct Way Of Using Roofing Tools

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

A right set of tools can ease the complications of a particular roofing job to a large extent. The households, which are equipped with all the required roofing tools, are well-prepared for the roofing emergencies and projects. Besides arranging and purchasing the necessary tools, it is also important to understand the proper usage of these tools. Improper handling of any of these tools could take away the efficiency of a particular roofing operation.

Before an emergency situation arrives, study the usage of the different tools available in your roofing tool box.

The most basic roofing tools are the cutters and the pliers. The circular saw and standard saw are regular in the scheme of things. Along with these, a slate cutter needs to be identified among the congregation of roofing tools. The slate cutters are used to cut out the shingles and slate segments with ease.

A pair of adjustable hip runners is mandatory in the regular scheme of things. The width between the posts can be increased depending on the requirement of the job. Besides that, a pair of seaming pliers finds utilization in most roofing jobs. Check the different types of pliers available in the roofing store. Normally, the pliers are differentiated on the basis of their teeth design and handling specification. While the standard pliers use the regular flat teeth, the teeth design becomes more sophisticated in case of purpose-specific pliers.

The multitasking roofing tools should be preferred over the other purpose-specific instruments. For example, an all-in-one hammer would be able to handle a wide variety of roofing tasks. The adjustable specification of the all-purpose hammer would offer better value-for-money than its counterparts.

A pry bar tool and a crow bar tool are almost mandatory in the regular scheme of things. It is very important to employ a right technique while prying up the shingles or the tiles. Improper technique would fail to deliver the optimum results to the roofer or the homeowner.

Start your experimentation with the studied roofing tools in the course of easy and simple roofing jobs. Once you have gained a good idea about the exact handling and working of a particular tool, switch the usage to the complex roofing projects as well.

Follow proper precautions while using the roofing tools.
